What are the typical coverage rates for Cedar Shingles and handsplit Shakes?

The coverage rates for cedar shingles depends on the gauge of the roof, the type of shingles and the exposure. The tables below can help you work out approximate coverage rates depending on these factors. Find out more about the benefits of using Western Red Cedar Shingles.

Please note: These rates do not take into account any site wastage, cutting or detailing.

All Marley Cedar Shingles and Shakes are manufactured from high grade Western Red Cedar and carry the Cedar Bureau’s ‘Certigrade or Certi-split’ quality assurance mark. No 1 Grade Blue label is the premier grade available and the only grade that we recommend for buildings. They are all 100% clear, 100% edge grain and 100% heartwood.

XXXXX Shingles are 400mm long and a bundle can contain a variety of widths from 75mm-350mm. Shingle depth is 10mm at the butt, tapering. Each bundle should contain approximately 120 pieces and have a ‘Blue Label’ in the banding.

Royal Shingle
are 600mm long and a bundle can contain a variety of widths from 75mm-300mm. Shingle depth is 13mm at the butt, tapering. Each bundle should contain approximately 76 pieces and have a ‘Blue Label’ in the banding.

Hand Split Shakes are handsplit and resawn, 600mm long and a bundle can contain a variety of widths from 75mm-300mm. Shake depth is 19mm at the butt, tapering. Each bundle should contain approximately 44 pieces and have a ‘Blue Label’ in the banding.

The below table is based on one bundle of handsplit and re-sawn 600x19mm ‘heavy’ Shakes.
