Marley’s roof ridge and hip tiles complement our range of clay and concrete roof tiles and can be installed using dry-fix methods for a secure and compliant finish. Designed to support effective weatherproofing and provide a consistent visual appearance for clay and concrete roofs, the tiles are available in an array of colours and styles.
What’s the difference between ridge and hip roof tiles?
Depending on a roof’s design, finishing a pitched roof may require ridge tiles, hip tiles or a combination of both.
- Ridge tiles are used along the horizontal apex of the roof, where two roof slopes meet.
- Hip tiles are used where two roof planes come together to form a sloped junction.
Ridge and hip tiles are often similar in manufacture and appearance, with suitability determined by the roof geometry and tile profile.
A wide variety of roof and ridge tiles
Marley’s hip and ridge tiles are available in curved, angular and hogsback shapes. Round ridge and hip tiles are suitable for a variety of pitches, depending on the selected roof tile, the fixing method and the system design.
Angled hip and ridge tiles are available with angles of 75, 90, 105, 115, 125 and 135°. Depending on the product, they typically measure 245 or 260mm across and are provided in lengths of 450mm for clay and 457mm for concrete.
Angled hip and ridge tiles are available in plain and decorative designs, including ball-top, fleur-de-lys and scroll finials, as well as decorative details such as club-crested, cocks comb or two-hole crested.
The range of available colours is intended to complement the Marley range of clay and concrete roof tiles. Choose from a variety of reds and browns to match clay roof tiles, as well as greys and blacks for a slate-like appearance.
Hip tiles and ridge tiles for dry-fix installation
Marley ridge and hip tiles are designed for use as part of the Marley Complete Roof system. They are also compatible with dry-fix ridge and hip fixing solutions, including the Universal RidgeFast System and the
Universal HipFast System.
When specified and installed according to Marley guidance, dry-fix systems provide mechanical fixing that offers weather resistance and continuous ridge ventilation.
Mortar bedding ridge and hip tiles
For properties where mortar bedding is required, we also offer mortar-bedded security fixing systems suitable for both roof ridges and roof hips. These systems combine the appearance of mortar bedding with the security of mechanical fixing, supporting compliance with BS 5534:2014+A2:2018, the code of practice for slating and tiling for pitched roofs.
