The benefits of specifying a roof system

Specifying Marley’s Roof System single-source roof system offers specifiers, including architects, developers and social housing providers, several advantages. These include:

  • Simplified specification and procurement – Sourcing all roofing components from one manufacturer ensures they work together seamlessly. This reduces design time, simplifies ordering and delivery, and keeps projects on schedule.
  • Design integration – Products are engineered to work together, minimising compatibility risks and ensuring consistent quality.
  • Assured compliance – Systems are designed in line with BS 5534 and other relevant standards, supporting Building Regulation compliance.
  • Reduced liability – With one manufacturer accountable for every component, there’s no ambiguity over responsibility, giving specifiers a straightforward route for advice, support or resolution.
  • Technical support – Marley's technical team is available to provide guidance throughout every stage of a project – from design and specification through to installation.
  • Comprehensive warranty – Our 15-year system warranty provides long-term assurance of performance and durability.

The assurance of specifying a complete roof system

The Marley Roof System is the most comprehensive on the market. It offers a fully tested approach to specifying pitched roofs, reducing risk and supporting compliance with building standards and regulations throughout a roofing project.

  • Base layers – JB Red Battens are the only machine-graded battens on the market, so you can be sure they're strong and durable. We also offer a choice of high-performance underlays, both vapour-permeable and non-breathable, depending on the home's ventilation requirements.
  • Roof coverings – With roof coverings ranging from clay and concrete tiles to timber shingles and shakes, specifiers, housebuilders and social housing providers can select products to suit any geographical location and aesthetic, including roofs with pitches as low as 12.5°. Options include traditional plain clay tiles, sleek and modern concrete slates, and a variety of profiled and interlocking tiles in various colours and sizes. We also offer cedar shingles and shakes, as well as Marley SolarTile® roof-integrated solar panels.
  • Roofing accessories – Our complete range of roofing accessories includes everything needed for mortar-free, secure, and reliable roof detailing. Choose from roof vents, hips, ridges, verges, eaves and valleys – All products are fully compatible with the rest of our roofing system, enabling specifiers to design high-quality roofs that meet every requirement.

Specifying roof systems with solar PV

With the growing emphasis on reducing energy use, cutting carbon emissions and meeting Part L requirements in England (and similar requirements in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), solar PV has become a key part of sustainable roof design.

Installing roof-integrated solar panels offers an effective way to support compliance targets for new-build housing, social housing and commercial projects. It can also help reduce long-term energy costs for occupants, adding value and appeal to developments.

As part of the Marley Roof System, Marley SolarTile® is a roof-integrated solar panel that is fixed directly to the battens in place of traditional tiles or slates. This creates a weather-tight, low-profile solar roof surface with proven wind and fire performance. The system’s compatibility with Marley’s underlays, battens and accessories makes specification straightforward and helps ensure consistent performance across the entire roof.

Specifying roof systems for compliance

With the Marley Roof System, you’ll gain access to a wide range of tools and resources to help make the design, specification and installation process as easy as possible. We offer a variety of free online tools to help you make calculations and design choices, while also ensuring compliance with building regulations and relevant British Standards.

  • BS 5534 – Code of practice for installing slates and tiles – As a pioneer of dry-fix roofing systems, Marley offers a comprehensive selection of suitable products and accessories to create attractive and reliable dry-fix pitched roofs that meet the recommendations of BS 5534, from batten selection and dry fixing to calculations for wind uplift.
  • BS 5250 – Managing moisture in buildings – From ridge and hip ventilation to ventilation tiles, dry verges and continuous eaves vents, Marley’s roofing system includes everything you need to ensure the roof system is suitably ventilated, helping to prevent condensation and excess moisture in line with BS 5250.
  • Approved Document L – Conservation of fuel and power – Marley SolarTile® is a roof-integrated solar panel that replaces the tiles on the roof. The result is an attractive solar system that reduces energy costs, cuts carbon and makes a property more appealing to buyers.
