Building sustainably

The products you choose

To support you in designing and building more sustainable projects, we continually review and evolve our product range and our operations, to keep going one better. Designing-in renewable energy systems for both new and refurbishment projects is a great way to enable householders to benefit from a clean energy source, whilst also reducing their reliance on taking energy from the grid.

Marley SolarTile®

The Marley SolarTile® is fully integrated into the roofline, creating a beautifully sleek aesthetic, without compromising on the performance of the roof. In fact, with industry-leading performance for both wind resistance and fire performance, and tested to perform with Marley roofing components, the Marley SolarTile® can be fully warranted, when installed as part of the full Marley roof system.

Our monocrystalline panel is available in 300Wp and provides a powerful and efficient cell, reaching an efficiency of 19.2%.

Achieving an A+ BRE Green Guide rating

The BRE Green Guide is part of BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method), which provide accredited environmental ratings for buildings.

The environmental performances of materials used in specifications are based on Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and the rankings provide guidance for specifiers looking to choose products and systems with lower environmental impacts.

The ranking system works from A+ to E, with A+ providing the highest environmental performance, with the least environmental impact, and E providing the worst environmental performance and most environmental impact.

Achieving A+ ratings

Credits are available for the specification of generic A+ rated materials (having the lowest environmental impact) for specific building types, including; domestic, retail, commercial, industrial, education and health.

These are based on elemental specifications and can be achieved using Marley’s range of clay plain tiles, concrete plain tiles, and concrete interlocking tiles.

For specific details on specifications and their ratings, you can visit the BRE Green Guide to Specification online, by clicking below.

Responsibly - the way we operate

BES 6001

Our adoption of the BES 6001 standard for Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products enables us to take a more responsible and sustainable approach to the sourcing of the materials that go into making our products.

Demonstrating our continued commitment to sustainable building, our roofing products have achieved an ‘Excellent’ rating and can therefore contribute the maximum extra 3 credits under the BREEAM family of environmental assessment schemes.

Projects using our products can now achieve the highest number of credits under the materials section of the BREEAM environmental assessment. A maximum of 6 credits can be gained by specifying our products that achieve an A+ in the BRE Green Guide and also hold an ‘Excellent' Responsible Sourcing rating, supporting you in designing more sustainable buildings.

Our accreditations and certifications

ISO international standards

Marley has been at the forefront of environmentally responsible manufacturing and working processes since the early 1990s and ever since we have taken practical steps that help us and others in the industry to be as environmentally responsible as possible.

We were the first in the roofing industry to have our LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) data verified, be awarded Certified Environmental Profiles by BRE (Building Research Establishment), and amongst the first to be awarded ISO 14001 - the internationally recognised standard for environmental management systems - at all of our factories.

Manufacturing processes are constantly reviewed to minimise their environmental impact, and each year we actively look for ways to improve our procedures and reduce our environmental impact even further.

We operate to international standards across all of our manufacturing sites covering quality, environmental management and health and safety, which are all independently assessed. These standards include:

  • ISO 9001 - Quality Management Systems (QMS)
  • ISO 14001 - Environmental Management Systems (EMS)
  • ISO 45001 - Occupational Health and Safety

BBA certification and Declaration of Performance

We have inspection testing certification from the British Board of Agrément (BBA) across a range of products and all of our products where required are fully UKCA and CE mark compliant, in line with the Construction Products Regulation standard. Declarations of Performance (DoPs) are also available by clicking below.
