How to lay ridge tiles

Ridge tiles are typically installed using modern dry-fix methods, supporting compliance with BS 8612:2018 Dry-fixed Ridge, Hip and Verge Systems for Slating and Tiling - Specification. Dry fix systems use a combination of mechanical fixings and adhesives to connect the ridge tiles directly to the ridge tree or to a ridge batten and to the roof tiles.

To install ridge tiles using a dry fix system:

  • Start by preparing the roof ridge. Fix the ridge batten into place and install a ventilated ridge roll, such as Marley’s Universal Ridge Fast System.
  • Next, position the ridge tiles along the ridge line, with stop-end pieces at both ends.
  • Finally, secure each ridge tile in place using the specified fixings, while ensuring consistent alignment along the length of the ridge.
