How does All Glass technology support solar roof tile performance?

Marley’s 445Wp All Glass SolarTile® is a roof-integrated photovoltaic (PV) panel designed to replace part of the roof covering while generating electricity. Here, we explain how its glass-on-glass construction, N-type TOPCon cells and published performance figures relate to efficiency and long-term output.

What is the Marley 445Wp All Glass SolarTile®?

It is a low-profile, roof-integrated solar panel that forms part of the roof covering and generates renewable electricity. The product is rated at up to 445 watts-peak (445Wp) under standard test conditions.

What does ‘All Glass’ technology mean?

The panel’s N-type TOPCon solar cells are encapsulated between a glass sheet at the front and another at the rear. This glass-on-glass construction provides better protection against oxidation, helping to support panel durability and long-term power retention.

Does All Glass technology directly increase solar efficiency?

Not on its own. The panel’s published 23.6% efficiency is a rating for the complete product and is based on its aperture area under standard test conditions. It reflects the combined panel design, including its N-type TOPCon cells and electrical construction. The main benefit of the glass-on-glass construction is improved cell protection and stronger long-term power retention.

What output and efficiency is the panel rated to deliver?

Marley’s product data lists a peak power rating of 445Wp, an efficiency of 23.6% based on aperture area, and N-type TOPCon cell technology. Actual energy generation will depend on factors such as roof orientation and pitch, shading, location, temperature, system design and installation quality.

How does the glass-on-glass construction support long-term performance?

Encapsulating the cells between front and rear glass helps limit their exposure to oxidation. This supports durability and helps the panel retain a greater proportion of its rated power over time. As with any PV product, long-term performance should be considered alongside the published guarantee terms and correct system design, installation and maintenance.

What long-term guarantee and system warranty apply?

For the 445Wp All Glass model, Marley offers a power-output guarantee of 95% of rated power at 10 years and 87% at 30 years. These percentages are guarantee thresholds for the panel’s rated power; they are not forecasts of a roof system’s annual energy generation. How does the 445Wp model compare with Marley’s 335Wp SolarTile®?

The 445Wp model has a higher peak power rating and published efficiency than the 335Wp SolarTile®: 445Wp and 23.6%, compared with 335Wp and 20.7%. It is also a larger panel, with a 1.885 m² aperture area compared with 1.622 m² for the 335Wp model. Depending on the roof layout and project requirements, the 445Wp model may help a system reach its target capacity with fewer panels, while the smaller 335Wp model may suit more constrained or obstructed roof areas.

Which roof coverings and projects is it suitable for?

The 445Wp model is compatible with all Marley concrete tiles, clay plain tiles and interlocking tiles, as well as tiles and slates from other manufacturers. The stated pitch range is 20°–60°, and our SolarTile® is suitable for new-build and refurbishment projects. Product compatibility, roof pitch, fixing details and electrical design should always be confirmed for the specific roof and installation. As with all our other PV panels, the 445Wp model can be installed portrait or landscape to provide a best-fit depending on the shape and size of the roof.
