Marley’s complete roof system was used for Lime Grove, a new-build family home in the rural village of Owmby-by-Spital in Lincolnshire. Developer Jamie Marshall worked with Marley to design a roof that uses traditional clay roof tiles and Marley SolarTile® integrated roof solar panels. This helped to create the client’s desired country-charm aesthetic with the long-term benefits of photovoltaic technology.
Due to the project’s rural location, Jamie Marshal was keen to ensure the roofscape design fitted sympathetically within the surrounding vernacular. This underpinned the selection of Marley’s Lincoln Clay Pantile in Rustic Red, as it complemented a secondary specified roof tile: the Acme Clay Plain roof tile in Red Smooth.
Cadell Beasley, area specification manager for Marley, says the roof tile selection works well for the location: “The combination of Lincoln and Acme tiles are perfectly in keeping with what is traditionally seen in the Lincolnshire area.
The Lime Grove project also includes modern renewable technology to improve the home’s efficiency, reduce energy bills and support compliance with energy efficiency requirements in Building Regulations Approved Document Part L: Conservation of Fuel and Energy.
Marley supplied eight 335Wp Marley SolarTile® panels for the project. Based on typical performance, this system should offset a significant portion of the household’s electricity demand, contributing to lower energy bills and reduced carbon emissions over time.
Being roof-integrated solar panels, Marley SolarTiles® are fitted directly onto the battens, replacing a section of roof tiles. This ensures a low-profile, seamless appearance compared with traditional on-roof PV systems. It also reduces the number of roof tiles required, cutting costs and the overall roof weight. This approach also reduces the risk of weather ingress and avoids compromising the roof’s overall aesthetic – an important consideration in rural locations where visual impact matters.
Jamie Marshall comments: “Being able to work with Marley as a single source supplier for both clay pantile and plain tile solutions, as well as the solar PV array, made it easier to deliver a fully integrated roof system.”
“We’ve delivered the best of both worlds – combining the aesthetic appeal and proven performance of traditional clay tiles with the undoubted sustainability and future-proofing benefits of solar PV. I’m delighted with the final roofscape we’ve been able to create together.”
Marley’s complete roof system includes a variety of compatible components that all work together to create a finished roof. It offers a wide range of roof tiles to suit any design aesthetic along with underlays, battens, ventilation products, the Marley SolarTile® and fire safety products. This means Marley makes it easy for specifiers, developers and contractors to design and install high-quality roofs that achieve performance and aesthetic requirements.
