Nando’s is a popular restaurant chain where diners can enjoy eating in a vibrant atmosphere. One of its newest restaurants is in the Academy Shopping Centre in Aberdeen, which is a converted Victorian school building in the heart of the city centre. The Academy has a central open-air courtyard where
shoppers can enjoy alfresco eating and drinking.
It was felt that decking would add to the ambience of outdoor eating at Nando’s, as well as fitting in with the surroundings of the Academy. The fact that neighbouring restaurant Wagamama also had decking for its outside dining area was also a factor.
Over 1000 metres of 145 x 34mm thick
Marley CitiDeck® anti-slip decking was installed to create a smooth 150 square metre platform for Nando’s diners.
Being open to the elements, the choice of surface treatment had to be weather resistant and safe for pedestrians, wheelchairs, pushchairs and the less mobile. Marley CitiDeck® is a smooth profile non-slip timber deck board designed for use in urban environments where inclusivity and accessibility are essential. JB CitiDeck® features two non-slip inserts with a white-coloured aggregate that provides both a practical benefit and an attractive appearance.
The decking for Nando’s in Aberdeen was treated to Use Class 3 (UC3) MicroPro®. It can also be supplied treated to UC4 (Naturewood®) to suit individual project requirements.
Aberdeen-based contractors KW Contractors installed the decking.
